It's Getting Hot in Here
Global warming is a huge problem. The temperature of the Earth is slowly increasing. As more carbon dioxide, methane, and chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) are released, it creates a layer in the atmosphere that traps sunlight causing the temperature of the Earth to increase.
There are many causes to climate change. Human activity is changing the natural greenhouse. Burning fossil fuels like coal releases carbon dio
xide into the atmosphere. Deforestation also contributes to the rising level of carbon dioxide. Not only does the process of deforestation release carbon dioxide but by killing the trees, they can no longer take carbon dioxide out of the air. Methane is also released into the air by human activity. The decomposition of waste in landfills and agriculture releases methane into the air. CFCs also contribute to the destruction of the ozone layer. Most of the causes for global warming are from human activity, but there are a few natural causes. For example, carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere by respiration and volcanic eruptions.
Global warming causes many issues. Sea levels are rising, heat waves are becoming longer, and ice is melting. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change “forecasts a temperature rise of 2.5 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit over the next century.” This will also change the weather. Hurricanes will become more intense, precipitation patterns will change, and there will be more droughts and heat waves. This effects everyone and everyone can help.
This is an enormous problem. So what can you do to help? You can start with simple things like using less water and energy and creating less waste. You can use less water by taking shorter showers and turning off the water when you are brushing your teeth. You can use less energy by buying energy efficient appliances, using LED light bulbs, and even just turning off the lights when you are not in a room. You can also reduce waste by recycling and eating all of the food that you buy. You can also get solar panels, energy efficient cars, and carpool or ride a bus.
Global warming is a huge issue and it is causing many terrible things. If we don’t do something now, it will cause even more problems in the future.
